THE $1 EXPERIMENT

Terms

Effective November 4, 2026

By submitting a contribution record, you agree to these terms. Read the privacy notice before sharing your information.

A personal experiment

The $1 Experiment asks what can happen when people voluntarily contribute a small amount. Contributions go to the organizers for personal use. Funds support the organizers personally and are used at their discretion. Contributions are not an investment, a purchase, a competition, or a promise to distribute money to other people. There is no financial return, equity, prize, reward, or repayment commitment. We do not issue charitable tax receipts.

Voluntary participation

Participate only if you are at least 18, are authorized to use the payment method, and are comfortable with the purpose stated here. There is no obligation to contribute. The stretch goal is an aspiration with no promised completion date or outcome. The project may be paused or ended without reaching it.

Payments and the ledger

Payments happen through Venmo when the organizer connects a valid payment link. Venmo’s own terms, eligibility rules, limits, and fees apply. Submitting this site’s form does not send money. For a direct private contribution, add “$1 Experiment” to the payment note so the organizer can identify it. If you use the optional public listing form, include your exact submission reference so it can be matched to your consent choice.

The organizer manually checks received payments. This is not an independent audit. Only verified, non-reversed contributions count toward the total. Amounts are in US dollars and represent the verified contribution amounts, before any provider fees or taxes. Pending, rejected, duplicate, and reversed records are excluded. We may correct errors and remove inappropriate aliases.

Public visibility

Your submission is private unless you explicitly choose a public listing. Public aliases must not impersonate others, contain contact details of others, or be abusive. The organizer may hide a listing but cannot opt you into public visibility. You can withdraw visibility using your saved private receipt link or by contacting the organizer.

Mistakes and refund requests

Contact the organizer promptly with your reference if a payment was mistaken or you want a refund. Requests are reviewed individually; no automatic refund is promised. Approved refunds are processed through the payment provider and confirmed refunds or reversals are removed from the verified total. Nothing here limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable law or payment-provider rules.

Sharing responsibly

Share only with people likely to welcome the invitation. Do not use the experiment for unsolicited bulk messages, impersonation, misleading claims, or attempts to bypass service protections. Referral links have no monetary value and do not entitle anyone to compensation.

Availability and updates

We aim to keep the ledger accurate but service interruptions and verification delays can happen. An unavailable counter does not imply zero contributions. No particular response time, reach, or fundraising result is guaranteed. Material changes to these terms will be posted with an updated effective date.
